What is Atkins Diet?
Atkins Diet was created by American Dr. Robert Atkins in 1970. Atkins had rather radical theories about the nature of weight loss as disclosed in the Atkins diet. He argues that saturated fat is not as bad as people claim. Carbohydrates are the cause. In Atkins theory eating too little fat makes things worse. Carbohydrates are used to make up for the lack of fat in the diet low in fat. New research says low carbohydrates diets like Atkins ‘most effective’ for weight loss compared with other diets. The idea behind the Atkins Diet is that by drastically reducing your carbohydrate intake, your body will use your fat reserves first. Atkins Diet consists of four phases, namely the induction phase, weight loss is in progress, pre-maintenance and lifetime maintenance. Induction phase is the most difficult phase of the Atkins diet. That lasted for about two weeks. During this phase carbohydrates are very limited, the goal is to enter a fat burning metabolic phase called ketosis when the body, lack of glucose, will begin to convert stored fat into fatty acids needed to power the body. After the induction period of two weeks, dieters gradually allowed to eat more carbohydrates so you can add some fruit, vegetables or whole grain foods. Learning the ideal carbohydrate levels for weight losing and for day to day after the end of the intake of weight loss is the goal of the final three phases in the Atkins diet. Atkins diet also has drawbacks because the Atkins diet is not very easy for vegetarians to follow and is not recommended for anyone with the problem of diabetes, heart or kidney disease, lack of fruits and vegetables you are allowed, especially in the first two weeks of dieting, you lose important vitamins and minerals.
