Give it a Twirl – The Perfect Spaghetti Bolognese

Spaghetti Bolognese is one of the tastiest comfort foods imaginable. Many of us enjoyed it growing up as a child, and the warm, hearty nature of the meal is perfect for a cold night. Whether you are trying to recreate the perfect version of spaghetti bolognese or you are trying your hand at this dish for the first time, following along with this basic recipe is simple. Do not confuse simple for plain, because this recipe packs lots of flavors!

If you want to prepare yourself before cooking, the best plan is to mince or dice all the ingredients you will need beforehand. This can save you time once you are ready to cook all the ingredients. Some of the items you will need to prepare beforehand include onions, garlic, herbs and carrots.

Heat some oil in a pan, and add in minced beef until it begins to brown. Once it is thoroughly cooked, remove it with a slotted spoon and set aside on a separate bowl or plate until it is needed. In the same hot pan, add in your carrots and onions, allowing them to cook until soft. Add the cooked beef pack to the pan, toss in your chopped herbs and add in a splash of red wine to the mix. Let the mixture cook for a few minutes.

Once the mixture has reduced slightly, add in some Heinz tomato ketchup, a cube of stock, some fresh or canned tomatoes and one bay leaf. Once all the ingredients are incorporated, heat up your stovetop and allow the mixture to boil. Once it is has started boiling slightly, reduce the temperature and allow it to simmer for 45 minutes at a low heat, stirring frequently to check that the bottom isn’t burning.

Serve this delicious and hearty bolognese sauce over spaghetti, topping with parmesan cheese and freshly ground black pepper. Thanks to Heinz tomato ketchup, this rich and flavorful dish is the perfect family meal!
